About Local Food
We are committed to promoting local and regional food from Devon and the Westcountry. We believe that buying local and regional food and ethical products supports small, rural businesses, rural ways of life and also the rural economy as well as being good news for the environment.
There is something special about Devon and Westcountry food... Many farms and businesses in the South West have more time to devote to their craft. There is a higher proportion of organic farms than anywhere else and many other farms also farm without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers and feed their animals on GM free food. Animals mature slowly and the farmers ensure they have healthy, natural lives outdoors.
Devon and the South West has a history of food and agriculture and cottage food industries. The weather gives a lush harvest throughout the year in various forms. We bring all this great locally and regionally sourced food to you - conveniently - wherever you are.
For us, it really is that simple - award winning, nationally acclaimed, Devon and Westcountry food is literally on our doorstep. The Local Food Company brings this food to you with added convenience and service from Land's End to London and beyond, via carbon offset deliveries.
Our shopping is sourced very locally, from an abundance of local food uniquely available in our region. Such is the density of food producers in the South West (over 3000!) that we are able to source weeekly shopping for a whole month delivered to Scotland for less food miles than an average Sunday dinner. We are so sure of this we were the first company in the UK to label all our food with food miles (where they are consistently known).
We pioneering the way local food was sold online in the UK and though many have since followed, we were the first company to set up online with the sole specialism of focussing on high quality regional food. We don't charge our suppliers any fees or set ups to sell their food and we always trade fairly with them.
We ban all known air freighted produce, only sell what's in season and anything that is only available outside the EU is separated in a different part of the site to promote the buy local, buy regional and buy British message. Buy locally. Buy regionally. Buy British. It's thousands of miles fresher.
